Bring along a portable smoke detector..... many of the hotels dun pass the fire safety requirements but are operating because of corruption.
Always do the following when you check into your hotel room....
a) Get your bearings and make a mental note of the layout of the hotel,
b) Know where the fire escape routes are and check they are not locked,
c) Have a torchlight within easy access in your room,
d) Bring along a portable smoke detector as the ones in the hotels often dun work,
e) Never overload the electrical sockets as the electrical lines are often installed and run by unqualified electrician and layman.
These precautions take less than 3 mins to do but it may save your life in an emergency. 90% of deaths occur by smoke inhalation and not from direct burning flames.
