Ya if you change a little like few hundred dollar, the difference is not that significant.
However one thing good about changing opposite formosa is that there are many money changer, so in order to stay competitive, they will have to offer their best rate to attract customers.
Cheongsters can also compare the exchange rate quoted by the various money changers. If change for more can bargain for a better rate too...

Actually I have some indonesian friend who do business in indonesia quickly change their money to sing or us dollar once they made a hugh profit afraid that the rupiah may drop in value again after some time.
Same as those joints and hotels in Batam, I am sure they will also convert their profit money to other currency too.
