Haha bro I share your sentiments about the Vina Lians. The finger jamming into the feet really takes the cake!
I've not been back to HCMC since March 2009. Will be temporarily retired from the HCMC scene as the regional countries offer me better and value for money cheong/entertainment. Might revisit once in a blue moon though.

The country needs another 5 years to catch up in terms of social scene. If you want HCMC 5 years ago, Cantho, Rach Gia or some of the provnicial cities will be that best model. Right now, i think HCMC is like Batu Pahat, in 5 years, it will be JB. Having said that, in 15 years though, i think HCMC will have glimpses of shanghai.
But all in all,i think the standard and comfort level of the Vina Lians that Singaporeans are used to can be found in joo jiat already. Coming to the mothership in Vietnam is not necessary a good thing. It is unlike thailand or china where you need to go in-market. Vietnam is export driven.
Some of us have been out too long and we don't explore the scene back in Singapore enough. My mate was sharing with me that as Singapore becomes a education hub, more and more students from the region go to Singapore to study, the girls they meet at the club these days are really regional. Apparently, clubs like Areana, Double O and even Butter Factory is very popular to Viets, Kazahs, Indon and Chinese students. These girls are out to play and being immerse in the Singapore enviroment, they can communicate with you, laugh at your jokes and maintain their charm of being Vietnamese, indons etc...
So my personal advice is please don't come here. It is really waste time. The goods are really in our own backyard already!
