I believe only Silkair and Malaysian Airlines has direct flight to Alor Star from Changi airport........ other airlines you need to stop over in KL to change flight to Alor Star.
I prefer to fly to BKK to connect another flight down to HDY
May oso wanna try flying from JB to Penang then onward by car to HDY later this year to see worthwhile onot
