The idea of making a sticky within this thread is more realistic & achievable, this you will have to PM Sammy himself but I sincerely doubt he will respond given the amount of moderation work he got himself into....
You will realise that its kind of dry in any forums, SBF or otherwise, if nobody comes in to interject the daily posts with chit-chat and dry humor, however I do admit its kinda irritating to those outside the circle whom just wants to look for information.
However always remember those so-called "irritating" chit-chat posts (my definition, not yours) frequently includes information and updates which VERY freqently those forumners whom are not a frequent poster in this thread will seldom bother to contribute.... they simply ask for information, say thanks (some even do not even bother to say thanks) and than disappear into thin air, maybe to materialised few months later asking for other information...
Of cos there will always be the odd person out but this are the minority, seldom the norm...
The very old original SBF forum had the true air of sharing, you would seldom find flaming, just plain old unselfish sharing of information with no strings attached, but I am just reminising about the glorious past, new generations breeds new behaviour, we just have to move & adjust....

Yeah I realize it's probably not feasible to go that way, to having the ability to start threads -- the forum software might not even be able to do it. I don't think it'd kill off the chit-chat -- it's obvious that the majority of members come here to participate in that. If there were separate threads, then at least one of them would consist of mainly that. The only difference is that people would be able to post questions or other topics outside of that chat thread. We basically have that chat thread now, and only that.
I think you actually mis-defined my definition -- it's not the chat itself that's irritating, but the job of going thru it all when looking for info. I know, that's not exactly clear. I mean, I can see obviously that people here are enjoying each others' company, and that that's a good thing and the reason those guys come here. It's just that from a selfish viewpoint (mine, maybe only mine, or maybe not, who knows), when I need to go thru it all, as yes an outsider from that chat and the in-jokes, that job can get tedious.
I really do think that if there were threads, I mean the ability for users to create threads, it would result in the same amount of chat, but also MORE chat that'd just be more focused on a specific topic. So more focus basically, and even more chat -- because the topics would inspire fresh thoughts on those particular topics. As it is here, a topic tends to die off more quickly because it gets lost in the long long thread. It doesn't get seen by most, only the ones who come often or are careful to check the thread carefully going back.
What I see in other forums is that a specific topic will start, it'll get a bit hot for awhile, up to about 30 posts or so, and then often it will transform into some totally different topic just because other subjects come up in teh course of discussion. And in-jokes and chit chat that has nothing to do with the original topic often take over too.
anyway, just my 2 cents... maybe 3.
