Discover cuisine on National Day

Tourists enjoy vegetarian buffet in Thien Hong Hotel.
To help food lovers celebrate Vietnam’s National Day on September 2, a range of eating places in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Dinh Province are putting on special programs with local and foreign dishes.


The Saigon Restaurant Ship, berthed at Bach Dang Quay in District 1, HCMC, will hold the “Relax on Saigon River” buffet from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The program introduces more than 50 dishes plus entertainment.

Groups and couples can also enjoy food and fun on Thanh Da-Binh Quoi boat tours from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., 6-7 p.m., or 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Ticket prices are VND150,000 (US$9.40) per adult and VND100,000 ($6) per child.

The Tan Cang Tourist Park, located at A100 Ung Van Khiem St., Binh Thanh District, HCMC, will serve “Buffet on the River” with over 50 Vietnamese dishes starting at 6 p.m. on the National Day.

The program includes entertainment and free gifts for children.

Prices are VND150,000 per adult and VND100,000 per child.

Starting at 5 p.m. on September 2, Van Thanh Tourist Park, at 48/10 Dien Bien Phu St., Binh Thanh District, HCMC, will serve a buffet with more than 50 dishes.

Diners can also take part in folk games with prizes.

Ticket prices for adults and children are VND150,000 and VND100,000.

The Bat Dat Hotel, located at 238-244 Tran Hung Dao B St., District 5, HCMC, will put on a buffet dinner, with over 40 Chinese and Vietnamese dishes from 6-9 p.m.

Tickets for the September 2 buffet cost VND150,000 per adult and VND90,000 ($5.60) per child.

Prices for the regular buffets on Saturdays and Sundays are VND120,000 ($7.50) per adult and VND80,000 ($5) per child.

The Majestic Hotel, at 1 Dong Khoi St.,District 1, HCMC, will launch “Asian Cuisine Week” to celebrate the National Day at its Cycle Cafe from September 1-7, at 6-9 p.m.

Great, original Asian dishes such as mee rebus from Malaysia, chilli crab from Singapore, Thai yam kung shrimp, Vietnamese beef noodles (pho bo), Japanese sushi and Indian biryani are on the menu.

The prices of $18 per adult and $9 per child (under 1.2m tall) include a 5 percent service fee, 10 percent VAT, and drinks.

Regular feasts also celebrate National Day

The Thien Hong Hotel, located at 52-56 Tan Da St., District 5, HCMC, serves vegetarian buffets every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6-9 p.m.

Ticket prices are VND80,000 for adults and VND60,000 ($3.80) for children.

The hotel also offers an ethnic Cham royal dance performance for groups of tourists, parties or conferences.

The Que Huong 1 Hotel, located at 49 Nguyen Dinh Chieu St., District 3, HCMC, has breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets.

Corresponding tickets for adults are VND70,000 ($4.30), VND159,000 ($9.90) and VND259,000 ($16).

Children are charged VND50,000 ($3), VND99,000 ($6) and VND129,000 ($8) respectively.

For HCMC diners looking for something different in Tan Binh District, the First Hotel, 15 Hoang Viet St., will open Quan Ngon De Nhat (First Delicious Restaurant) on September 1.

The 200-seat restaurant featuring Vietnamese architecture will serve more than 100 well-known Vietnamese dishes of the country’s three regions.

Restaurant hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. It offers a 10 percent discount on opening month.

In Binh Dinh Province, the Hoang Hau Restaurant, which belongs to the Ghenh Rang Tourist Resort in Quy Nhon Town, will launch the “Vietnamese-Japanese Cuisine” program on August 30-September 1 from 6-8:30 p.m.

The Japanese dishes are prepared by Japanese chefs.

From the hillside dining room, customers can take in ocean and town views, plus enjoy music by the Manila Jive Trio band from the Philippines.

Ticket prices are VND160,000 ($10) for adults and VND60,000 for children.
