Certain states in malaysia are indeed much cheaper like east coast i.e. kelantan and terengganu. But from what i had gathered from local malaysian, those states are overwhelmingly malay muslim with no other races so if you can't speak bahasa and you are not muslim you are going to have a very tough time.
