I've a friend who works at ICA who told me that among many factors they look at includes but not limited to
- how long fdw/fw has been working in SG
- past marriages of fdw/fw and any children not born to local spouse or would be spouse, if any
(they may even be required to go the lawyer's office to make a statutory declaration of their past as mentioned above)
- job and salary of local sponsor (spouse or would be spouse, dunno why ICA sometimes refer them as sponsor)
- education of local sponsor
- past employment of local sponsor (to ascertain that he/she has a proven track record of stable employment
Children of the couple, even if born overseas, can be applied to be SG citizen which will be automatically approved
Known as citizenship by descent
Child will be dual citizenship and have to declare choice of citizenship at 21 years of age
Failing to do so will cause forfeiture of SG citizenship
I have a handful of friends who married foreigners in this fashion
Me included and mostly to fdw
A few of them are not approved successfully
From observation, those who worked as civil servant (eg. Police, Army, Navy) usually gets approved without much hassle
Same as those who have good jobs and good education
Yes, there are cases where no matter what they do, write letters, find MP etc
Still cannot get approval
But not a lot
Just like covid, yes there are a lot of people warded to ICU or even dying from covid, but that does not mean that every person that gets infected will need to go ICU or even die from covid
In fact most don't
My wife, is already a PR, now considering whether want to apply SG citizenship or not
Previously given more than a year entry ban because she got pregnant before getting MOM approval
First son born in PH, no choice
Second son also born in PH cause she wanted to save costs, giving birth is so much cheaper there plus she got so many sisters to help look after the baby
If I hire a nanny here, the cost will be so expensive lol
So it's actually not that impossible as it sounds
