"Nevermind, I stay at home." He chirped.

"Then your phone comes with me." I said.

My son made a face. "Then later if got emergency, how to message you?"

I pointed to the cordless phone lying on the sofa, "there is such a thing as a telephone, you know?"

I heard my son groan as I walked away.

"Come on Captain Ah Mary Kah," I shouted as I walked towards the bathroom, "Ask not what your Aba can do for you but what you can do for your studies."

"It's Captain America! And he didn't say those words; they were said by John Kennedy!" he retorted. I smiled as I closed the bathroom door. My son's really growing up.
By the time we got to the hospital, Mother and I were informed that my wife already had 3 visitors so either myself or my mother was allowed to visit her. The hospital regulates that each patient was only allowed 4 visitors at any one time. I was puzzled as to who might our 3 mystery guests?

The mystery was solved the moment I got to my wife's bedside. Standing around her was a committee of vultures. Oops! I meant her sisters. If you ever read the story of Cinderella, you'd probably won't need any introduction to these ladies; each one as devious as the other.

I remember when I was wooing my wife during my NS days, I used to drive my father's Mercedes. When they got wind of it, they thought I was a golden goose. I remembered how they all clamored to gain attention from me. If I recall properly, one of them was already engaged but was openly flirting with me. Among the 4, my wife was the only angel - so pure, so innocent. Sometimes it made me wonder that if they were so scheming, would they still trade their bodies to get what they wanted in life?

"Abang! You are here! I was just telling your wife to take care of herself," Nadia cooed. I nodded at her statement and mouthed a "thank you" at her. Nadia was the leader of the pack and the most manipulative.

"Dear," my wife said as she struggled to get up. Nadia hastily got to my wife's side and help prop her up. "Careful sister, you are still weak. If you need any help, let us know." Nadia said.

"Thank you dear sister." my wife said to Nadia and then turned her attention back to me, "Dear, my sisters were planning a trip overseas. As the mid year holidays are around the corner, they would like to Adek along."

"Would you also like to join us?" Nadia cut in, "We could use this chance to catch up on old times and it would be a good chance for sis to get some fresh air, outside of Singapore."

I wanted to say something but she cut me off again, "All expenses paid." she said, "the 3 of us will share all expenses - air tickets, hotel lodging, food - you just bring yourselves there. Think of it as our way to show our appreciation to all the things sis has done for us."

I smiled at Nadia and then glanced at my wife who was now beaming; blood was thicker than water, after all.

"What do you think, sayang?" I asked my wife.

"Getting some fresh air sounds good to me; I don't know how long more I can live," she said before she broke down into sobs. Her sisters swooped down to her side, patting her on her hands and shoulders, consoling her.

"Please don't say this sister. If there is anybody who should die, it's us. We are sorry we have not been taking care of you all these years." Nadia lamented. Annie and Sophie also nodded in unison. "Yes, please forgive us."
