1) I think you don't go to Batam for a day trip, but you have a hotel for the night. If you are on a 1-day trip, then of course you have no choice to take everything with you.
Personally, I would keep my belongings with me in a small backpack (don't you travel with a bag??) also in the massage room. Where's the problem??

2) Of course I trust the safety box of the hotel! If I don't trust AT LEAST the safety box of the hotel, that's a good reason to not stay in that hotel.
ANY hotel has a safety box, if not in room at the reception desk (e.g., Formosa)! Maybe except the cheapest and seediest places. Will you stay in a hotel or in a cheap rental room of the suburbs??
Anyway, the safety box is the safest place you can have. Much safer than keeping things with you (we can lose things for distraction, if not stolen)
