Except those cases, which I don't want to repeat, I would NEVER drive a car or a bike in Batam.

Do you know that insurance is not mandatory, so that most people driving there is not covered? Considered how most people drives there, the probability of accident is too high to risk (my opinion). In case someone crashes into your car, you would not get any refund, as the other may be not covered by insurance, and of course is not wealthy enough to refund expenses of car damage, not to mention hospitalization for you and your passengers.
