I read a few things which i think i might have read wrong. The link was mainly from 11 years ago and i read that overnight booking girls during that time in Batam was between 500k to 2 million? That is even more expensive then today, given the fact that exchange rate was 5700/SGD to 5900/SGD. (i did an exchange rate check online for 2004)
Hotel is a little lower in price as compare to today,roughly about 15% plus minus increase 11 years ago after offsetting the exchange rate difference. So the increase in Hotel price isnt really high as compare to today.
I learned from that thread that detailed Batam information comes with a price tag 11 years ago. 11 years ago,i pay about S$15 for my 8mb thumbdrive from Iomega which i still have it today. Today i dont see anyone willing to buy it at that price for a 8mb thumbdrive,hehehe...and obviously nobody sells it too...lol. What i am trying to say is,internet bandwidth is more expensive 11+ years ago,hehehe....

Money? Check the New Testament Bible provided on the PC desk drawer,there should be some small notes which i left it for the "hardworking" room service staffs if they happen to clean "my" desk well enough,hehehe....

The items you found stated above from MIC,80% of them cheaper than in Sim Lim Sq. You will still need to bargain for the BEST price. Just take note that some of these shops are "brother shops" like those Sim Lim Sq own by ah neh (in sillypore). Meaning they know their customers will compare prices from shop to shop ,and since rental is cheap the "same owner" will rent down a few shops selling the same thing but run by different people so they can monopolize a certain area to control their pricing and to keep ample stocks. (1 of Sim Lim Techniques)
Example :
Bro Lurpsexx is a Batam local businessman,he went to Nagoya Hill Mall basement to rent 5 to 6 shops within a radius of few shops apart,naming them as shop A,shop B,shop C,shop D,shop E,shop F and shop G. When nono1973 go to a shop at Nagoya Hill Mall to shop,he 1st step into shop A,bargain for a MIC phone from 1000 000 to 900 000. Shop A tells nono1973 that 900k is the best price,nono1973 dont believe,he went to the next shop,which is shop B,shopkeeper knows nono1973 just came from shop A,so he says he will give him at 850k for the same thing. Nono very happy thinking that by going to roam around more,he could get better deals,so he approach shop C but shop C says no and the final is 850k. Then nono visit shop D and later E,all saying same thing as shop C.
After walking and bargaining with so many shops,he was exhausted and finally reach F who gave him the BEST ever price 820k!! Nono w/o even thinking just grab,pay and go. So he happily goes back to Formosa hotel and on his way before he reach Formosa,he went into Lucky Plaza to check out whether if he gets a real deal at Nagoya Hill Mall. It was then he realise that from the 1st shop (in Lucky Plaza) that what he bought was actually retailing at 800k,and the shopkeeper to spite nono further says if he plan to get a 2nd set and from him,he can give him a discount to 700k,and that was before the bargaining starts. End up nono1973 goes back to room crying over kena chop ,knowing that if he were to buy another of the same thing,he could jolly well get it at least at 600k (or below) after bargaining.

In order to balance his proud ego of being kena chop an extra 200k+,he came to the Batam Info Thread which he often frequent to share his experience, telling everyone there truthfully that tho he overly pay for an MIC product by 200k+,he is very very HAPPY with his purchase blah blah blah....and if it were to happen again,he will still do the same thing (but in fact,his heart is bleeding,hehehe...).
