Dear bros,

I will be gg to hatyai in may to attend a wedding and will be staying in the Bp samila beach resort (songkhla). Is it very far away from all the happening joints the bros are talking about in this thread ? As this is my first time gg to hatyai, pls advise.

Thank you in advance bros !

Have a 9 holes golf course at the door steps of the hotel, walking distance to seafood joints (avoid those Muslim ones as someone mentioned). The caddies there CMI....:p

Don't bother with the Aquarium.

That part of Thailand not known for any happening one. Mostly BYO, and have a good quality time enjoying each other company.

Can be lonely, if you go alone....:D

Choke dee:)

Sawasdee Pa etct88,

Whole week never see you post.
Finally make an appearance. :D

So how? Did you join them for the weekly TT just now?
I hope you miss my company as I enjoy TCSS more than going to Thai Discos in Singapore. :p

Have fun ;)

Aha, so that is Songkla. Was brought there by my old man guide during my CNY trip and found a Thai-Chinese lady who agreed to spend the night with me. She was the 2nd wife of a Malaysian businessman who went back to KL to spend the CNY with his family, so she was lonely and available for FL. :D

Anyways Hatyai doesn't cut it for me. 9D8N spent there is enough and I do not think I will be back. Would like to explore other places. :)

HatYai tuk-tuk drivers on strike

Report from Bangkok Post dated 17.2.12 :

Hat Yai tuktuk drivers: No taxis

Tuktuk drivers in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district on Friday staged a protest against local authorities after officials granted concessions for taxi services in the southern region's economic centre.

They insisted that allowing taxis to operate in the town would pose a threat their incomes.

A group of 50 tuktuk operators parked their vehicles in front of Hat Yai train station this afternoon, demanding that officials find a resolution to the problem and help affected operators.

The protestors claimed the concessions granted to 10 taxi cab operators last week to operate on the same routes they run on would cause them to lose money in the long run. They threatened to hold a mass protest rally if justice is not done.

Kongkiat Tachu, a tuktuk driver, said officials offered the taxi concessions without seeking opinions from local tuktuk drivers. He said there were already a great number of tuktuks, songtaews and motorcycle taxis and the arrival of taxis would only make it harder for him to earn money

However, the taxi services were hailed by many residents and Malaysian tourists in Hat Yai, reports said. Many complained they were treated unfairly by tuktuk drivers, who regularly overcharged and often violated traffic regulations, causing traffic problems.

They said taxis would provide an alternative mode of transport and would boost the image of Hat Yai as a tourist town.

Tuktuks in the South are often small four-wheeled vehicles and often run on set routes, not the iconic three-wheelers that zip around Bangkok and many other centres.

Way to go. Competition is good. Since tuk2 double up as pimps, there must b a huge shortage. Serve them right.
For info, from bus station to station(HD to SKHla) cost only 20baht(green bus). Pass by windsor, florida hotel, oliver massage, overhead bridge(rail), plaza makt, president haotel, city garden hotel n on to Skhla. Still in city BUT outskirt. But of course, hv to wait along the route. Give a try to escape the bustle of HDY.

SGD 32 from NATAS Fair (offer last day on 26 Feb) but I booked VL Hatyai (SGD 30) instead as it is bundled with airticket (Tiger SGD 163.91).
