For those who planning their trip within these few weeks, better to monitor weather news update as the 2nd flood is brewing and coming soon. Some villages in Korat are already flooded to waist level. Thai local TV is broadcasting the flood situation this morning and their locals are very concern as they have yet to recover from the last flood.

In Songkhla, the water level in the Uthapao Canal has risen following overnight rain but it is still five metres below its normal banks, a safe level. However, a 15-metre portion of a road linking two municipalities in Hat Yai was partly washed out, and ropes and other warnings are in place to warn motorists to drive with care.

The regional Meteorological Department warned of another round of floods triggered by heavy rain in the South from the upper southern province of Chomphon southward.

It issued the second warning for strong wind in the Gulf of Thailand and heavy rain in the South’s eastern coast, caused by the ridge of intense high pressure from China, covering upper Thailand. Residents are advised to be alert to possible flash floods from December 7th through the 9th. (MCOT online news)

Report from Bangkok Post dated Friday 10 December 2010 :-

Warning of flash floods in South

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned people living near hillsides and waterways in Chumphon, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat to brace for possible flash floods and mudslides.

Director-general Wibul Sanguanpong said on Friday that the continuing rainfall in the three southern provinces since Thursday could cause sudden floods or mudslides in risk areas.

The districts at risk are Patoh, Lang Suan, Thung Tako and Sawee of Chumphon, Nasarn, Wibhavadi, Tha Chana, Chaiya and Koh Samui of Surat Thani, and Ronphibul, Noppitum, Larn Saka, Pipoon, Chawang and Prom Khiri of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

He advised the local residents to closely follow the official weather forecasts.

Re: Hatyai,Thailand For Sawadee Newbies

Sakura is located inside Haadyai central city so nope its not affected, most of the floods will be on the south east of thailand. If u can change ur hotel, i recommend Golden Crown Plaza as it is just right behind regency and they are not as crowded as Mayflower or Regency.

There's 2 Sakura hotel.... the old one is facing the funeral parlour..... and the other newer one is called New Sakura with a big secured basement carpark for those who go to hatyai in their own vehicles..... stayed there in Dec 2006 and the basement carpark was flooded when the rains did not stop for 2 days.... luckily was able to remove my motorbike onto a lorry to escape the flood waters. :D
