Is Hat Yai just a superior Danok?

What are three (or even one) advantage of Hat Yai over Bangkok, Saigon and Jakarta?

I can think only of two possibles and one marginal

1. Speed: slightly faster to get to than Bangkok. Maybe your job allows very little time off
2. Social: if you are ethnic Chinese and want to go out in groups with same
3. Transportation: easier to get around than Bangkok. Walkable?

What is the attraction? I don't see the logic in not going to the mother lode (= the treasure trove) I think an unbiased reviewer would be hard pressed (I.e. he couldn't do it) to argue that Hat Yai has either better quality (younger, more beautiful, more skilled) or better value (get more for what you pay for and I don't mean kilos) talent.

Filipinos are warm and don't require condoms
Vietnamese are more skilled
Indonesians and Khmers are cheaper
Burmese (at least in Yangon) are younger
Red light zone in Kolkata has a huge variety of prices and ethnicities
Nepalis are more exotic
And if you like Thais (and who doesn't?) both Pattaya and Bangkok have a huge selection and more nude dancing
If you want to work on normal girls, say college students, Chiang Mai and Hue have much better prospects

So my question is simple: Why does anyone go to Hat Yai, what's the purpose? Yeah, I'll visit the stainless steel modern art Buddhist temple. Big deal.

The only explanation I can think of - sorry for the critucism, is that Malaysian and Singaporean men are not adventurous and don't like to venture outside their comfort zone. Or they are like actors on the stage, trying to impress their friends. I see Chinese guys in their 70s sitting with their bored hooker 'girlfriends' at breakfast. Guys in their 30s taking them shopping. I think it is pitiful. Farangs make the crucial mistake too. Americans in Mexico and Angeles. Wake up! Your wife or mistress is one thing, your lover too. But a prostitute is a prostiture and a client is a client. It is imbecilic to pretend otherwise. It is the sex business. Sure, enjoy it. But don't become confused.

So, this is really two subjects - 1) an enquiry about why anyone visits Hat Yai (unless they have business reasons or some secret contacts that make it less of a gamble) and 2) an admonition to romantics to give up the delusion.
