Once upon a time, a veteran of forums, jason_, decided that it was time he made a visit to some old forums that he frequented often in the past.

Much to his delight, he found that he had outstanding debts to pay, as some kind generous and probably misguided souls had decided to give him extra Reputation Points in the forums.

Hmmm, I probably should return them the favor of giving them some Reputation Points too. But there's already an existing thread for points exchange, and I really really don't feel like participating in someone else's thread. After all, I have an IQ of 140, and it ill befits me to associate myself with humans of lesser stature.

With that in mind, jason_ decided that he would create his own thread for points exchange; with the specific goal of rewarding those who granted him extra points.

Knowing that the frequent forum user would, in general, have a lower IQ than he, jason_ decided he would forego naming his thread "Jason's thread to return points to the people who upped his points" to "Thread to post ??? to receive rep pts". Perhaps the intentionally vaguely worded title would prevent stray comments from the unassociated forum member.

Little did he expect that after creating his thread, jason_ was instead attacked by fellow forum members: ostensibly for creating an unnecessary thread and one that would be a rival to that of the highly esteemed GeorgeMagnum.

Why can't they see that I just want to return the points given to me by my friends? Don't they understand, I just want a safe, neutral thread for my friends to be able to post random nonsense so I have a recent post to award them extra Reputation Points?

Unfortunately for jason_, his sensitivity to users of lower IQ caused him to post yet more confusing entries in his thread: Instead of telling everyone this is a thread for people on his counter-up list to post nonsense in, he chose to say this is a thread for people to post "anyhow typing". Why, he even emphasised that this thread was NOT for discussion! This, of course, led to the arising of several different discussions, much of which were participated in by jason_ himself.

How dare they besmirch my genius? How dare they criticise me and lambast with me accusations and words which are highly untrue. My EQ is not sufficiently developed to deal with this, my ego and pigheadedness due to my IQ of 140 won't allow me to accept these without lying down! I MUST salvage my pride!

Full of righteous fury, jason_ proceeded on a carefully(-lessly?) crafted plan of confusion. His plan predicated upon the combination of arrogance, disdain and insults upon people in possession of lower IQ than he to carry forth his disregard for these crass people. How dare they say what they did to him? These were no longer fellow human beings, they are beasts! For only sub-humans would not appreciate his brilliance!

First, he would pretend that the reason he created the thread was to launch a social experiment, from which findings he would be able to submit a patent for an obscure discovery. Next, he would subtly lower the self-esteem of his doubters by denigrating them as animals, so as to lead them to the realisation of his own superiority.

Jason_ missed a crucial point however. Although it was true that most people on the forums had an IQ lower than that of 140, his perceived superiority in his own IQ was in doubt. Someone who had an IQ of 140, for example, would never have missed the fact that discoveries from social experiments hardly qualified for the registry of a patent. For, as most people with half a brain would know, patents only protect a product, not a finding, especially a finding with such scarce quality!

Much to his dismay, he saw his meticulously planned scheme demolished in face of such severe criticism and outright mockery that in his rage, jason_ drafted a manuscript of his claimed social experiment and submitted it to the Journal of Psychology. An excerpt of that could be found here:

It has long been theorised that humans descended from an animal ancestry. Darwin put forth the theory of evolution which supports this way of thinking. In my study, I created a thread on a forum, Sammyboyforum.com with a radical topic in order to challenge the mindset of the average forum user. My results indicate that in the face of confusing data with no real purpose, the users of this forum undertake to ostracise the initiator of pointless threads. It has previously been found in the society of baboons, when a member of the troop is found to be behaving in a socially unacceptable manner, it would then be ignored by the rest of the baboons. As such, I conclude that the users of sammyboyforum.com are nothing more than animals.

With pride, he submitted his manuscript.

Two days later, jason_ received a reply in his mail. Full of excitement, he ripped open the envelope and read the contents.

Thank you for your submitted manuscript. It was a refreshing read indeed. After having to go through many intense and complicated journals, it was good to have a laugh. While we appreciated your attempt at levity, we thought it best to advise you this: It would probably be a good idea for you to GROW UP, and to accept that behaving in a socially unacceptable manner WILL lead to ostracisation in regular society. Rather than the case being humans behaving like animals, it may benefit you to realise that this behavious is so unacceptable that even beasts refuse to acknowledge a troublemaker. We strongly urge you to STOP ACTING LIKE A BABOON, and wish you good luck in your endeavours, and hope that you will have a good day.

Seething with rage, jason_ once again launched his favorite platform for venting: his thread on the forum. Logging in, he launched upon a vitriolic rant, thus falsely reassuring himself of his superiority while further degrading his reputation in the eyes of his peers.

The sad truth behind all this undeserving arrogance and self-belief? An IQ test found behind a box of Captain Crunch that consisted of 4 questions, for those aged between 4-6 years of age...
